New wool in the shop

I'm really happy to have some new wool in the shop again. I got really inspired over the weekend.

There are more wool still to go up in the shop but here are some that I entered tonight...

Ready for SIV

All done...?

I thought I was finished - a whole pile of fibres, a nice assortment of hand spun, everything labelled and priced...So now I get a week of rest before the big week end.

So what am I doing today....? Dyeing wool of course! I woke up this morning in a green mood so there was just one thing to do...

I suppose I can squeeze a few more rovings in to the boxes...

Piles of news and updates....

I hardly now where to begin... But I will start with yesterday and work my way back...

Yesterday We went to see this little creature....

Her name is Arachne and those of you who are familiar with Greek mythology might now her namesake. For those of you who don't know the story - here's a short recap. The Godess Athena gave to mankind (among many things) the knowledge of the textile crafts. One of her pupils were Arachne and she was truly gifted. After learning all she could she created a tapestry so fine and so flawless she boosted that even Athena herself could have made it any better. 

When these news reached Athena she grew curious and went to see for herself. And indeed the tapestry was perfect in every way and so beautiful that Athena flew into a jealous rage and ripped the tapestry to pieces. Arachne was devastated and  fled crying.

Later Athena regretted her rage and sought to find Arachne to ask her forgiveness. Only to find that Archne in her despair had hung her self from the branch of an olive tree. Athena then regretted her doing even more and turned Arachne into a spider and said - You will spin the finest thread and weave the most delicate weft  but few will stop to admire your work.

From this story comes a saying that no great work of the hand should be without flaws as it might anger the Gods and so Arachne holds a special place in all texile crafter's heart.

Anyway - come April she will be part of our household and she will probably help me spin as well...

As for the spinning and dyeing - there's an awful lot of updates in the shop. I'm dyeing and spinning for SIV. The great knitting event of the year here on the west coast of Sweden. Here are a few of the latest of the many wonderful fibre braids.

There are so many different fibres - Silk, BFL, Kid mohair, Polwarth, Falkland and various wool mixes as well. Best way to keep updated is to pop over to the shop every now and then for there is something new almost every day

Another week

Time does surely fly when you're having fun... Can't believe it's already saturday again. 

Last Tuesday was spinning night, Wednesday knitting night - both were great fun and very energising. A bit of a breather on Thursday and then the week was suddenly over...

Last night was spent at the movies with a very inspiring movie - Les Miserables. Yes there's a lot of misery but through it all there's a hopefulness and a firm belief in the goodness of mankind which I find inspiring. 

Inspiring is also all the wool I have lying around and this weeks update in the shop is all about greens - mystical, dark, sumptuous and happy healing green...

Lemon tree orchard - test knitting

Since it's the first time I do this kind of dyeing I just have to test knit a small piece. I wound the giant skein into one big ball of 245g last night when it had dried completely. Ozzy (the cat) had a great time dashing in and out under the skein pretending attacks just to tease me and having a great time running away every time I scolded him ;-)

I used 3,5mm knitting needles and knitted in the round.

The light this time of year is not great and since there was a blizzard outside yeasterday I had to resort to using the flash. But I took some without as well...

Lemon Tree Orchard

It was a bit fiddly and took a lot longer than I expected but I'm very pleased with the result. It's not completely dry yet and still remains rewinding, measuring and weighing before they're on display in the Shop.

Lyckad färgar-helg

Vårgulgrön ljuvlighet

Det blev lite ull färgat i helgen som var.

Inte allt blev som jag hade tänkt mig, men inget blev egentligen dåligt. 

Jag lyckades färga helt utan att koka ullen vilket är ett konststrycke i sig själv med tanke på hur tanksprid jag kan vara. 

När ullen står på spisen så tänker jag att jag ska bara greja med lite annat och Vips! så glömmer jag det mesta...

Jag var lite väl generös med färgen...

Jag är vansinnigt sugen på att spinna allt på en gång, men eftersom det är övertid på jobbet och vår på utsidan, så får jag nöja mig med det jag redan har på spolarna. Tills andan faller på eller snarare tiden infinner sig, så kommer dessa att finnas i shoppen med lite utförligare beskrivning och fler bilder...

Tillskott

Det har kommit nytt tillskott i min garnsamling. Mjuka glansiga garnhärvor att klappa på.

I helgen spann jag 100g egenfärgad BFL som blev 284m tvåtrådigt garn som jag inte har en aning om vad det ska bli, men det var kul att spinna.


I tisdags hade jag två paket att hämta på posten, men det visste jag inte förrän senare på kvällen när sambon kom hem med paketen som han hade varit gullig och hämtat på vägen till repet. Det ena (till vänster i bild) innehöll två härvor Merinogarn i färgen Olive och en härva spetsgarn i BFL/Suri alpacka i färgen Forest. Båda dessa är från Fleece Artist och inhandlade på Garnkorgen. Underbart mjuka och härliga levande.

Det andra paketet (det till höger) kom från Spinspiration och innehöll senaste numret av Spin Off och 100g Jak fibrer. Jag passade också på att anmäla mig till nästa omgång månadsfibrer i dubbel dos. Jag var inte med i förra omgången och jag saknade det väldigt mkt. Jak fibrerna ska bli intressant att prova på. Jag har tidigare spunnit underull från myskoxe och tänkte att detta skulle likna det, men det kändes ganska annorlunda. Och kort! Det visste jag ju i och för sig att det skulle vara, men det ska bli väldigt spännande att se hur det går att spinna det så småningom.

Jag tror jag har kommit in i en spinnperiod och just nu är det pärlemo-färgat silke på väg in i spinrocken som sedan ska kombineras med en rosa-lila BFL. Har också orange BFL och Silke att spinna ihop så småning om. För att inte tala om den grå gottlandsullen som ska bli tofflor till hösten och Puddingullen som jag överlistat med kardorna... Det blir nog mkt garn här framöver - hoppas jag...

Lite bakgrund

Sedan före jul har jag varit inne i en intensiv spin-period. Det har inte blivit så mkt stickat. Så jag tänkte visa lite bilder och berätta lite bakgrund.

I några år i början på 90-talet bodde och arbetade jag med Beth på Ballytoughey Loom . Detta var på härliga lilla Clare Island på Irlands västkust. Familjen hade egna får, Black Headed Mountain Sheep, ganska grov ull som vi spann och växtfärgade och sedan vävde mattor av.

Mattor var inte det enda vi vävde och det mesta materialet var köpt, men jag lärde mig spinna färga och väva där. I vart fall grunderna, märkte jag senare.

Detta är jag vid den första spinnrocken jag provat.

Hela ön är ett underbart ställe, lätt förtrollande. Man blir avslappnad och jag kände mig väldigt hemma där. Naturen är vackert karg som den blir när den ständigt attackeras av nordatlantens råa styrka.

När jag sedan kom tillbaka till Sverige gick det flera år utan vare sig ull eller spinnrock. Men en dag köpte jag en begagnad Louët S10 med Jumbo Flyer.

Jag införskaffade lite ull här och där, men inget av speciell god kvalitet. Men jag hade ju inte varit van vid annat så när jag snubblade in på Spinspirations hemsida hamnade jag i paradiset. The rest is history som man säger. Nedan lite av det som blivit till under hösten/vintern.

Jag har nog lärt mig mer om ull och att spinna det senaste året än jag gjorde under åren på Irland. Då hade vi inte tillgång till datorer som nu och man gjorde efter bästa förmåga. Målet då var tjock stadig ull i stora mängder för mattvävning och inte det finliret man pysslar med nu. Det gör ju också stor skillnad.
